To announce Taiwan’s participation in the Paris 2024 Cultural Olympiad, the Ministry of Culture held a press conference on June 25. Attendees included Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim, Culture Minister Li Yuan, Vice President Chang Huan-cheng (張煥禎) of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee and leader of the Cultural Olympiad team, Deputy Director-General Hung Chih-chang (洪志昌) of the Ministry of Education’s Sports Administration, and Director Franck Paris of the French Office in Taiwan, along with other guests.

Twenty-two performing arts groups and over 120 performers from Taiwan will be featured in the Paris 2024 Cultural Olympiad from July 27 to Aug. 10. Vice President Hsiao decorated each invited performing artist with a sash, showing her support for them. She said that this marks the first time for Taiwan to participate in the Cultural Olympiad, an artistic celebration that showcases Taiwan’s cultural diversity and resilience on the international stage.

The Taiwan team lineup includes both traditional and modern art groups, such as Shintrun Taiwanese Opera Troupe (薪傳歌仔戲劇團), Rom Shing Hakka Opera Troupe (榮興客家採茶劇團), Shiu-Kim Taiwanese Opera Troupe (秀琴歌劇團), Ming Hwa Yuan’s subsidiary Ri Theatrical Troupe (明華園日字戲劇團), and Ban Lamgu (閩南嶼文化).

Other performers in the lineup include music band sam-seng-hiàn-gē (三牲獻藝), singer Abao (阿爆), disc jockey Dungi Sapor (DJ汝妮), dance troupe Eye Catching Circus (創造焦點), and drag queen Nymphia Wind (妮妃雅).
