The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) 2024 announced its main competition lineup on Sept. 25, revealing that the Taiwanese film “Daughter’s Daughter (女兒的女兒)” and the Taiwan-Japan co-produced “Lust in the Rain (雨中的慾情)” have been nominated.

“Daughter’s Daughter” is directed by Huang Xi (黃熙) and produced under the guidance of acclaimed Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-hsien (侯孝賢) and actress Sylvia Chang (張艾嘉). Notably, 90% of “Lust in the Rain,” directed by Katayama Shinzo, was filmed in Taiwan.

In addition, “Black Ox (黑之牛),” a Taiwan-Japan-America joint production which features renowned actor Lee Kang-sheng (李康生), has been included in TIFF’s Asian Future program.

Delighted at the news that Taiwanese films are selected in the film festival in Japan, Culture Minister Li Yuan said that the ministry will continue to explore collaborations with international film festivals and cultivate filmmaking talent to elevate Taiwanese cinema to new heights.

Taking place from Oct. 28 to Nov. 6, TIFF will present various awards, including the Tokyo Grand Prix, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Special Jury Prize, and Best Artistic Contribution Award, during the closing ceremony on the final day.
