Taipei, May 24 (CNA) Hollywood movie star Tom Cruise arrived in Taiwan on Wednesday to promote his new film, keeping a promise he made four years ago to local fans.

Cruise's private jet landed at the EVA Sky Jet Center in Songshan Airport at around 6:20 a.m. With his signature smile, he waved toward fans and reporters as he emerged from the center and signed autographs for some of his fans gathered there.

With the visit, Cruise kept a promise made when he was last in Taiwan in 2013 that he would return to the island to promote one of his future films in the not-too-distant future.

Cruise is here to promote "The Mummy," an film directed by Alex Kurtzman, in which he plays the lead role.
Annabelle Wallis and Sofia Boutella, who also have major roles in the film, are accompanying Cruise on the promotional tour.
The trio will attend a press conference in Taipei on Thursday, before heading to the Miramar Cinema in Dazhi District for the premiere of The Mummy, according to the film's promoter.

The Mummy, which stars Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis and Jake Johnson, is scheduled to hit theaters in Taiwan on June 9.

With this visit, Cruise has become the Hollywood star with the most visits to Taiwan after previous trips here in 2000, 2001 and 2013.
