Hon Hai enters top 100 in Forbes' Global 2000 ranking for 2017

Taipei, May 25 (CNA) Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. was ranked 98th on the Forbes' 2017 Global 2000 list of the world's biggest and most powerful public companies, making it the only Taiwanese company to feature in the top 100.

This year a total of 46 Taiwanese companies appeared on the Global 2000 list, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. , the world's largest contract chip maker, which was 127th and Chunghwa Telecom Co. at 720th.

Other Taiwanese companies in the the top 1,000 are Quanta Computer Inc. at 870th, Pegatron Corp. at 884th and MediaTek Inc. at 991st.

Chinese banking giants ICBC and China Construction Bank claimed the top two spots on the Forbes' Global 2000 list for 2017, published on Wednesday, while American company Berkshire Hathaway run by Warren Edward Buffett took third place.

American and Chinese companies claimed the top nine spots with the 10th going to Japanese automobile maker Toyota Motor.

The Global 2000 ranking is based on a composite score from the equally-weighted measures of revenue, profits, assets and market value, according to Forbes, an American business magazine published bi-weekly with reports on finance, industry, investing and marketing.

The 2017 list features public companies from 58 countries that together account for US$35.3 trillion in annual revenue, US$2.5 trillion in profit, US$169.1 trillion of assets, with a combined market value of US$48.8 trillion, up 10% from the previous year, Forbes said.
