Taipei, May 26 (CNA) Taiwan's top statistics agency has raised its forecast for Taiwan's gross domestic product (GDP) growth this year to over 2 percent after the country's economy recorded stronger than expected growth in the first quarter.

The Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) projected on Friday that Taiwan's economy will grow 2.05 percent in 2017, up 0.13 percentage points from its previous estimate of 1.92 percent growth made in February.

The projection was consistent with the general market view, as several domestic economic thinks had already revised their own 2017 growth estimates upwards to above 2 percent.

Taiwan's GDP grew 2.60 percent from a year earlier in the January-March period, according to figures released Friday, beating an estimate of 2.56 percent made by the DGBAS in April.
