Taipei, June 1 (CNA) The Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. (THSRC) announced on Thursday that it will provide special discounts of up to 50 percent for students in middle and high schools as well as universities during the summer vacation.

The discounts of 50 percent, 30 percent and 15 percent will be provided for students aged 12 and up who study in the three levels of schools in the country. Tickets for minors aged 11 or under are already discounted at 50 percent off the price of an adult ticket.

The tickets will be valid from July 1 to August 31.

In order to encourage students to go on an outing, a discount of 30 percent will be provided on most trains running from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every Monday to Thursday.

A discount of 50 percent will be available for some trains departing earlier than 6:45 a.m or later than 9:45 p.m. Monday to Sunday.

A 15 percent discount will be provided to some trains during weekends, Fridays to Sundays, according to the THSRC website.

The company reminded student passengers who qualify for the discounts to bring their national ID card or health insurance card (for those aged 12 to 18) or their student ID cards (for those aged 19 and older). The discount is not applicable to international student ID card holders.

To accommodate an expected increase in travelers during the summer, THSRC also said it will provide seven additional trains every week starting July 1, bringing its weekly runs to 974. Among the 974 trains, 356 will be providing discounts for students.

Passengers can book the discounted tickets starting from midnight Saturday, said the THSRC.
