Taipei, June 6 (CNA) Men between the ages of 40 and 49 spend the most on overseas trips among all other age groups in Taiwan, according to a survey commissioned by Visa and released Tuesday.

This demographic spent an average NT$34,747 (US$1,023) per overseas trip, higher than the average of NT$32,535 spent on the last overseas trip by Taiwanese travelers, according to the 2017 Taiwan Cross-border Travel Intention Survey.

In addition, the survey shows that both highly technology-dependent travelers and clients on package tours spent more money than other types of travelers, spending an average of NT$33,893 and NT$33,363, respectively.

Also, Taiwanese women in the age groups between 20-29 and 30-39 spent more on average on their overseas trips than their male counterparts in both age groups.

But women aged 40-49 spent an average of NT$32,919, lower than their male counterparts in the same age group.

The survey shows that with the rise of budget airlines and the abundance of travel offers, travel overseas has become the primary choice for Taiwanese when arranging their annual vacations.

The survey shows that up to 75 percent of Taiwanese have fewer than 15 days of annual leave. Overall, 64.5 percent of the respondents spend more than half of their total annual leave period traveling abroad.

The online survey polled 1,000 people aged 20-49 who have traveled overseas during the past three years.
