Taipei, June 8 (CNA) Biotech firm OBI Pharma Inc. gave the fattest compensation packages on average to its employees last year among all of the listed firms in the local equity market, followed by integrated circuit designer MediaTek Inc. , according to data compiled by the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) and the Taipei Exchange (TPEx).
The data shows that the employees of OBI Pharma, which is listed on the over-the-counter market, received NT$3.96 million (US$132,000) on average in compensation package in 2016, ahead of MediaTek, a firm listed on the main board, which paid out NT$3.23 million to its employees on average.
The TWSE operates the local main board, while the TPEx runs the OTC market.
Compensation packages refer to direct benefits, such as salary, allowances, bonus and commission, and indirect benefits, such as insurance and pension plans, received by employees from their employers.
On the main board after MediaTek, Hotai Motor Co. , a local sales agent for Japan's Toyota Motor, came in second, paying about NT$3 million on average, ahead of connector maker Foxconn Technology Co. ( NT$2.88 million), Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., an assembler of iPhones and iPads for Apple Inc. ( NT$2.6 million) and window curtain supplier Nien Made Enterprise Co. (NT$2.26 million).
Smartphone camera lens supplier Largan Precision Co. , which was the top earner in terms of earnings per share in the local equity market, took 45th place on the local main board with about NT$1.6 million on average.
After OBI Pharma on the OTC market, LED material maker Topco Technologies Co. took second place paying NT$2.85 million on average, followed by Medigen Biotechnology Corp. ( NT$2.57 million), IC designer eMemory Technology Inc. (NT$2.29 million) and Internet equipment provider Bothhand Enterprise Co. (NT$2.25 million).
According to the statistics, the combined amount of compensation packages given by listed firms on the main board to their employees hit NT$1.31 trillion in 2016, up 0.90 percent from a year earlier.
The average compensation package on the main board rose 2.45 percent year-on-year to NT$1.09 million, the data shows.
The data indicates that the aggregate amount of compensation package on the local OTC market totaled NT$171 billion in 2016, up 4.59 percent from a year earlier, with the average compensation package up 2.41 percent year-on-year at NT$850,000.
