Taipei, June 8 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen on Thursday expressed gratitude to Saint Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Timothy Sylvester Harris for the country's longstanding and unwavering support for Taiwan in its efforts to attend the World Health Assembly (WHA) and other international organizations.
Tsai said during a meeting with the visiting St. Kitts and Nevis delegation led by Harris that she hopes the country will continue to support such international participation as that allows Taiwan to make a greater contribution to the international community.
Tsai noted that Harris has visited Taiwan several times, including attending her inauguration ceremony last year, and established good relations with officials.
She also thanked Harris for speaking in favor of Taiwan's participation at the U.N. General Assembly in 2015 and 2016, as well as St. Kitts and Nevis' support for Taiwan to attend this year's WHA in Geneva last month.
Talking of bilateral relations, Tsai said the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1983 and have since then supported each other internationally, while cooperating in areas such as infrastructure construction, education and culture and agricultural technology.
In terms of public health and medical care, Tsai highlighted a joint undertaking between the two countries for the prevention and control of chronic kidney disease in St. Kitts and Nevis, and organized by Veterans General Hospital in Taipei, which was launched in April.
Tsai said she hopes the two countries will continue to deepen their exchanges in various areas to create new prospects for win-win cooperation.
