Taipei, June 12 (CNA) Fuzhong 15, New Taipei's documentary theater in Banqiao District, will screen the award-winning documentary of late filmmaker Chi Po-lin's five times from June 13 to 24, with admission to be free.
The 2013 documentary "Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above" will be screened at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, 3:00 p.m. Thursday, 4:20 p.m. Friday, and 10:30 a.m. on June 24.
The cinema will give people waiting in line a number tag 20 minutes before the screening time and let viewers in 10 minutes before the showing.
People will not be allowed in when the 115-seat Fuzhong 15 is full.
The screenings come after Chi was killed in a helicopter crash in a mountainous part of eastern Taiwan over the weekend.
Chi, his assistant Chen Kuan-chi and helicopter pilot Chang Chih-kuang were found dead after the Bell-206 chopper they took crashed on a hill near the mouth of the Xiuguluan River in Hualien County at about noon on Saturday.
The documentary took three years to make at a cost of NT$90 million (US$2.99 million), and Chi and his crew spent 400 hours in the air to get the aerial shots for which the film is noted.
Chi was in the helicopter on Saturday to scout possible locations to shoot footage for a sequel to the first documentary.
"Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above" is widely considered to have played an important role in making local residents more aware of the beauty of the island and the destruction of the environment caused by decades of exploitative economic growth.
The film won the best documentary award at the 50th Golden Horse Awards, Taiwan's equivalent of the Oscars, in 2013.
