On June 5, the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) held the orientation meeting for the 2017 Program for the Taiwan Youth Practice in the Overseas Community. At the meeting, speakers once living abroad shared their overseas experiences with program participants to help them prepare for their trip. The Program is being held for the first time by the OCAC and received many applications from young people in Taiwan. OCAC Minister Wu Hsin-hsing chaired the meeting in person and called on the participants to serve as cultural ambassadors for Taiwan.

Wu stated that Taiwan faces a stern challenge on the diplomatic front, encouraging the participants to play the role as cultural ambassadors so as to actively assist Taiwan with expanding external relations. He also hoped they would learn a lot from their overseas trip.

The Program has selected 120 college students to go to 12 cities in the US, Canada, and Australia for seven days of learning. During their stay, they will visit overseas communities, act as volunteers, and engage in cultural activities. Participants will stay with overseas compatriot families.
