Paris, June 21 (CNA) The Taichung City government sealed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with French software company Dassault Systèmes and Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in Paris Wednesday as part of efforts to develop Taichung's smart machinery industry.

The agreement was signed by Taichung Mayor Lin Chia-lung, Dassault Systèmes Senior Executive Vice President Bertrand Sicot and Lo Tzuo-liang, a section chief at ITRI's Smart Microsystem Technology Center, during the Paris Air Show.

According to Taichung's Economic Development Bureau, the city is hoping to establish a long-term partnership with Dassault Systèmes to promote advanced industrial software and system simulation technology in Taichung and introduce the company's software into the city to help local machinery makers to upgrade into manufacturers of smart machinery.

Lin said Dassult Systèmes' modeling and calculation software is key technology needed by Taichung to develop its smart machinery industry. The city government will serve as a platform to promote cooperation between the French company and local manufacturers to accelerate the industrial upgrade, he added.

The city government also hopes to employ Dassult Systèmes' technologies in its efforts to create a "smart metropolis" in the heart of Taichung, the mayor said.
