Brussels, June 26 (CNA) Two Taiwanese ministers headed a large delegation in a meeting with European officials and business leaders in Brussels on Monday to explore the possibility of cooperating in developing industries of the future.
Minister Without Portfolio John Deng and environmental chief Lee Ying-yuan were at the head of a 110-member delegation attending the two-day EU-Taiwan Event on Industry of the Future.
Deng said Taiwan is promoting artificial intelligence, auto-driving, green energy and other industries based on circular economy concepts.
"We're seeking close cooperation with our European partners," he told the meeting.
Lee elaborated on the strengths of Taiwan's circular economy, such as a resource recycling rate that ranks No. 2 in the world.
"We're aiming to achieve a 61 percent resource-recycling rate by 2020 and become a hub of Asia's circular economy by 2022," Lee added.
Officials of the EU Commission for Growth briefed Taiwanese delegates on the EU's major policy goals, including developing digital industries and promoting a circular economy.
Lee said the two-day dialogue will focus on the EU's policy consensus and he believes the two sides have potential in projects related to recycling plastics, kitchen waste, electronics and biomass and the management of waste from construction sites.
