Taipei, June 27 (CNA) Two new bus routes between Kaohsiung and Pingtung County will be launched on July 1, in an effort to encourage more people to use public transportation, Pingtung County government said on Tuesday.

One of the bus routes is between Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA) New Zuoying Station in Kaohsiung and Liangshan recreational area in Pingtung; the other route is between Neipu Township in Pingtung and Fengshan bus station in Kaohsiung, from where passengers can transit to Kaohsiung MRT (mass rapid transit) Dadong Station. Buses on the two routes will provide six round trips per day.

The county government will also launch two local bus routes from Liangshan recreational area in Majia Township, from where Liangshan waterfall is within walking distance. One will run northward to Dajin in Gaoshu Township and the other southward to TRA Chaojhou station, though both will only operate on national holidays and weekends with eight round trips a day.

The county's Department of Urban and Rural Development said it hopes the two routes will provide tourists with easier access to local sightseeing areas and help promote the local tourism industry. All four routes will be operated by Kaohsiung Bus Company.
