Taipei, June 29 (CNA) Taiwan has won the LLB Junior League Baseball Asia-Pacific Region Tournament and will progress to the world series scheduled for Aug. 13-20 in Taylor, Michigan, the LLB Asia-Pacific Region Office announced on Thursday.

According to the office, the championship game between Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) and the Philippines, which had been set for Thursday in Saipan, was canceled due to heavy rain.

The tournament committee determined in a meeting that Taiwan had the better results during the tournament and will advance to the world series, the office said in a Facebook post.

"All members agreed that Chinese Taipei won this tournament and will advance to the U.S. representing the Asia Pacific Region," it said.

Taiwan is represented in the tournament by a team from Hsin Ming Junior High School in Taoyuan City.

The team's head coach, Huang Wei-chih, said the school has participated in the LLB Junior League Baseball tournament several times since 2013.

Taiwan has represented the Asia Pacific region for seven consecutive years and won five world series championships, he said.
