Taipei, July 2 (CNA) Top-seeded Taiwanese badminton player Chou Tien-chen came back from behind in the men's singles final to defeat second-seeded compatriot Wang Tzu-wei 2-1 in the BWF Chinese Taipei Open Sunday.
It was Chou's third win against Wang in their badminton careers. Although Chou lost the first game 18-21, he managed to snatch the second game 21-19 following a 19-19 tie.
In the third game, Chou maintained his lead after they tied at 5-5. Wang fought hard to a one-point lag, but Chou secured five consecutive points to claim the win 21-15.
After winning the game, Chou praised Wang as a strong competitor -- which is good for raising Taiwanese badminton players' competitiveness.
"Wang unleashed fierce attacks today that I could only try to restrain and wait for him to make mistakes. As we fought back and forth, whoever was more patient and able to save his strength for critical moments won a tense game," Chou added.
A day earlier, Chou also staged a comeback 15-21, 21-10, 21-12 victory against Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia to enter Sunday's final.
