Taipei, July 6 (CNA) Services on the mass rapid transit (MRT) line between Taipei and Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport were suspended for 50 minutes Thursday morning due to damage to a rail deck at one of the MRT system's stations.

The damage occurred at around 6:30 a.m., when an oversized tractor-trailer truck passing under the MRT line's A8 (Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital) station apparently hit the metal underside of the bridge and punched a hole, leading to an electrical fault that caused the system to halt.

Police authorities said they were trying to find the vehicle that caused the accident.

After emergency repairs, the MRT system resumed normal operations at 7:20 a.m., according to the Taoyuan Mass Rapid Transit Corp.

Check-in service for airport MRT passengers at Taipei Main Station was restored until 9:40 a.m.

The company said there were no reports of air passengers' trips being delayed.

This was the first major glitch the system has experienced since it began commercial service on March 2.
