Taipei, July 12 (CNA) A painting exhibition and dance performances are being held in Taiwan to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Republic of Paraguay, Taiwan officials said on Wednesday.
The painting exhibition, which will take place from July 12-20 at National Taiwan University of Arts, features paintings by Paraguayan artists such as Hernan Miranda, Koki Ruiz and Esperanza Gill, according to Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
The paintings include realistic works, as well as portrayals of the lives of Paraguayan people and colonial period city scenes.
Vice President Chen Chien-jen attended the opening of the exhibition on Wednesday, along with Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes, who is on a three-day state visit to Taiwan.
Chen and Cartes were accompanied by three of the artists as they viewed the exhibition, before the two men went to watch a performance by Paraguayan dance troupe Ballet Mimbipa elsewhere at the university.
Ballet Mimbipa, which performed traditional Paraguayan dances, such as "The Bottle Dance," will also stage a show at Xinying Cultural Center in Tainan City on July 14, MOFA said.
