Taipei, July 16 (CNA) Tickets for the opening ceremony of the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei have sold out, an official with the committee organizing of the event, also known as the World University Games, said Sunday.
Lee Chang-hui, who is in charge of market development of the sports extravaganza, said that all 12,000 tickets available for the Aug. 19 opening ceremony, had been sold out as of Friday.
In comparison, only 17 percent of tickets have been sold for the Aug. 30 closing ceremony, but the city government expects the number to go up after it launches a promotional campaign in the latter half of this month, Lee said.
The opening ceremony will be held at the Taipei Stadium, and the performers will include Taiwanese dancer PeiJu Chien-Pott, formerly with the Martha Graham Dance Company, Cirque du Soleil dancer Billy Chang, and singer Leehom Wang.
The closing ceremony at Taipei Stadium on Aug. 30 will be a rock and roll bash, with such performers as LaLa Hsu and aboriginal singer Jia Jia.
Ticket prices range from NT$800 to NT$3,500 for the opening ceremony and from NT$500 to NT$2,000 for the closing ceremony, while prices for individual events range from NT$200 to NT$300.
For fans interested in attending different competitions in the same sport on multiple days, ticket packages ranging from NT$500 to NT$1,600 are also being sold.
Meanwhile, the Taipei Police Department, which is in charge of security for the Universiade, said it will deploy around 5,000 policemen at the Athletes' Village and sports venues.
