Taipei, July 24 (CNA) A forum on green energy development will be held in Taoyuan on Thursday to explore how cities can strengthen their competitiveness and develop sustainably at the same time.

The 2017 CommonWealth City Summit, themed "City Innovation Drives the Future: New Blueprints Aim to Increase Civic Participation on Green Energy," is being organized by CommonWealth Magazine and Changhua County, considered to be a representative green-energy city in Taiwan.

"Green policy and green energy investment have undoubtedly become the major trends in economic strategies and policy implementation worldwide. Nowadays, green-energy cities not only emphasize sustainable development but also focus on civic conversations," CommonWealth Magazine said in a statement.

The one-day forum, being held at the Novotel Taipei Taoyuan International Airport Hotel will begin with three keynote speeches, including one from Sean McDermott, general manager of Northland Power Development Co. Ltd., Taiwan.

Changhua County Magistrate Wei Ming-ku and Chu Wen-chen, chairperson of Taiwan Power Company, will also deliver keynote addresses.

McDermott's company has started to develop offshore wind power off the coast of Changhua back in May, while Wei and Chu have been committed to green energy development for years, the magazine said.

"They will share their new observations and the new trends on green-energy cities, exploring how cities can strengthen competitiveness and develop sustainably at the same time," it said.
