Taipei, July 25 (CNA) Vice President Chen Chien-jen said at the 2017 International Workshop on Strategies for Combating Human Trafficking in Taipei on Tuesday that Taiwan will do its part to combat human trafficking.

The two-day workshop began that day at the Taipei City Civil Service Development Institute involving foreign and local officials, including American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Acting Director Robert Forden.

Chen said that Taiwan has shown very good results in combating human trafficking, hence its ranking as "Tier 1" for eight years in a row in the annual U.S State Department Trafficking- In-Persons Report.

The annual workshop is part of attempts by the National Immigration Agency to strengthen its combating of human trafficking and its cooperation with foreign agencies.

Chen said that even though it is largely restricted from participation in international events, Taiwan will not be absent from combating human trafficking and will remain active in international cooperation.

He also expressed hope that international organizations and groups will give Taiwan opportunities to take part in combating human trafficking, as it has cooperation agreements with 18 countries, showing Taiwan's determination to be integrated internationally.
