Taipei, July 28 (CNA) A recent move by Taipei City government to decorate one of the city's metro trains with themes that promote the upcoming 2017 Summer Universiade, the biggest sports event for international university athletes, has caught the attention of CNN's travel website.
CNN reported on Thursday how Taipei has redesigned the carriages of a six-car train to resemble different sporting venues -- track and field, a soccer pitch, a baseball field, a basketball court and a swimming pool.
"Don't be alarmed if fellow passengers start stripping off aboard a metro train in Taipei. Chances are they think they've found a swimming pool inside the carriage," CNN said.
CNN also interviewed a spokesperson for the city's Department of Information and Tourism, who said that by choosing to revamp a train, used every day by commuters, the public will be able to more directly participate in the Universiade, the largest international sports event ever held in Taiwan.
"Many people are still unfamiliar with -- and have never stepped inside -- some of the sports venues, we hope to bring sport closer to their daily life," the spokesperson was quoted by CNN as saying.
The 29th Summer Universiade will take place from Aug. 19-30 in Taipei. More than 7,700 student athletes from 153 countries will compete in 21 sports.
