Taipei, July 29 (CNA) Taiwan won a gold medal at the 2017 World Games in Wroclaw, Poland, after beating China in the final of the women's 540-kilogram indoor tug-of-war event 2-0.

The Taiwanese team became undefeated in the competition, in which only the six best teams in the 540-kg category at last year's World Indoor Tug of War Championships participated. In addition to Taiwan and China, the other four teams represented Switzerland, South Africa, Ireland and the Netherlands.

Taiwan won all five matches in the round-robin first round of competitions to advance to the semifinals. It got past South Africa in the semifinals with a 2-0 score.

The Taiwan team's victory was considered revenge against its Chinese rival, which defeated Taiwan in the final of last year's world championships.

As of Saturday, Taiwan had won one gold medal, four silvers and three bronzes in the quadrennial global multi-sport event being held July 20-30.
