Taipei, Aug. 5 (CNA) Paraguay students studying in Taiwan gave lively singing and dance performances at the Presidential Office on Saturday to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Republic of Paraguay.

The five students performed Paraguayan songs and traditional Paraguayan dances, such as "The Bottle Dance," energizing bystanders visiting the Presidential Office that day.

The Presidential Office building was open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

One of the performers, Viviana Ortega Rodriguez, who studies at National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism, began dancing at the age of five. She said she brought four large bottles all the way from Paraguay to Taiwan in order to perform "The Bottle Dance."

The performers also sang the theme song from the popular Taiwanese film "You're The Apple Of My Eye," drawing applause from bystanders.

Lee Nan-yang, an official from the Presidential Office, said he hopes the performances will help Taiwanese people learn more about Paraguay.

Taiwan is a close friend of Paraguay and the two sides countries have cooperated over the past six decades to build a win-win relationship, Paraguay's ambassador to Taiwan Marcial Bobadilla Guillen said.

Taiwan and Paraguay established official ties on July 12, 1957. Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes led a delegation to Taiwan last month to celebrate the 60th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.
