Taipei, Aug. 5 (CNA) International University Sports Federation (FISU) Summer Universiade Director Marc Vandenplas on Saturday expressed confidence that the upcoming event in Taipei will be a success.

Over the past six years, Taipei has worked closely with FISU to address the many difficulties involved in program planning and designing the athletes' village, Vandenplas said.

A good example of such cooperation, he said, is the decision to install a mobile swimming pool instead of spending huge amounts to build a new one, adding that the idea is the result of involving many experts.

In addition, each sports category was given two to three day trial runs to identify and correct problems, he said.

The 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade is set to open Aug. 19 and run through Aug. 30.

To ensure the opening ceremony at Taipei Stadium goes smoothly, the organizers conducted trial runs on Saturday evening to examine the efficacy of administrative procedures, security capabilities and traffic flow.
