Taipei, Aug. 6 (CNA) Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) has selected Chaozhou Rolling Stock Depot in Pingtung to promote the development of solar energy, the TRA said on Sunday in a statement.
The TRA is inviting tenders to install solar panels and equipment on the roof of the depot building and will start confirming the eligibility of candidates for the first phase on Aug. 28.
The company that receives the tender will install, operate and maintain the solar power system and also be required to pay the TRA a percentage of the money earned from selling solar energy.
The solar energy development project is expected to generate an estimated 5 million kilowatts hours (kWh) of power annually and create revenue of NT$36 million (US$1.22 million) over the next 20 years, according to the TRA.
The TRA devised the plan in response to the central government's push for the development of rooftop solar energy projects.
