Taipei, Aug. 9 (CNA) Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan departed Wednesday on a trip to Japan, which is aimed at obtaining ideas for infrastructure and economic development of his city and strengthening friendships.

At a press conference at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport before his departure, Cheng said he and his delegation will visit several Japanese prefectures, paying special attention to their art, culture, tourism, energy systems and agriculture.

In Osaka and Kyoto, the delegation will look at public infrastructure, commerce and culture, with the hope of adopting some ideas that can be applied in Taoyuan, he said.

Meanwhile, in Kagawa and Chiba, which have had numerous exchanges with Taoyuan in recent years, the focus will be on their use of art and culture to boost tourism and build people to people relationships, Cheng said.

The delegation will also visit the cities of Chiba and Narita, which have friendly city agreements with Taoyuan, and will observe their development in the areas of logistics, solar energy, and tourism, he said.

During the eight-day trip, the delegation of Taoyuan local government officials and city councilors is scheduled to meet with Taiwanese communities in Japan and with legislator Tsukasa Akimoto of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party.
