Taipei, Aug. 11 (CNA) Preparations to secure the security of the 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade Athletes Village have been completed, the Taipei City Police Department said in a statement Friday, eight days before the games' opening ceremony is held.
Lin Chun-yi, the deputy chief of the Police Department's Mobile Division, said the village's central security command center has been set up and over 500 police officers have been stationed at the village and will conduct 24 hour patrols to keep the athletes safe.
Lin said that a three-meter high fence erected around the perimeter of the village will channel all people entering and leaving the area through restricted check point areas at designated entrances.
To enter the village, athletes will need to wear their identification badges supplied by the Universiade, which will be checked by card readers.
Their belongings will also be checked by an X-ray machine, and they will go through a metal detector door and be checked by hand-held metal detectors, if necessary, Lin said.
Any cars entering the village will be checked with metal detectors and under-vehicle explosive scanners and detectors, he said.
The 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade Athletes Village is located on Wenhua 1st Road and Renai Road in Linkou District, New Taipei.
According to the Universiade website, the village consists of 34 buildings that can provide accommodation and related services for over 10,000 athletes.
There are expected to be over 7,639 athletes competing in the 2017 games.
