Taipei, Aug. 15 (CNA) Chunghwa Post Co., Taiwan's official postal service, said on Tuesday it will hand out free postcards decorated with themes from the upcoming Universiade from Wednesday, urging the public to write encouragements to members of the Taiwan team.

The post cards will be available between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. in the lobby of Taipei City government, where a temporary post office will be established.

Postage will be free for those who mail the postcards on site, the company said, adding that it will deliver them to the Universiade Athletes' Village.

Also on Wednesday, the company will issue commemorative stamps for the event, which feature the Universiade mascot "Bravo" engaging in sports favored by Taiwanese athletes.

The new offerings include an eight-stamp set -- four with NT$5 (US$0.16) postage and four with NT$15 -- as well as a miniature sheet featuring one NT$25 stamp, the company said.

The sports represented on the stamps will include basketball, baseball, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting and taekwondo, according to the post office.

More than 100 countries will be represented at the Taipei Universiade, which will be held from Aug. 19-30.
