Taipei, Aug. 17 (CNA) About 45 percent of the more than 700,000 tickets to competitive events at the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei have already been sold, the organizing committee said Thursday.

Rollerblading, badminton, diving and fencing are among the most popular sports and tickets have already sold out, the committee said during a press conference held at the Universiade media center in Taipei.

Tickets to weightlifting and gymnastics are also almost sold out, it added.

According to the committee, tickets to basketball, baseball and volleyball account for a majority of the 320,000 tickets currently sold.

To date 70,149 of the tickets for basketball; 45,097 tickets for baseball and 39,780 tickets for volleyball have been sold, it said.

Meanwhile, athletics and football have each sold 20,000 tickets, while gymnastics, judo, table tennis and tennis have each sold 10,000 tickets, the committee said.

In addition to pre-sold tickets, the organizing committee said a small number of tickets will be available for purchase at the stadium venue an hour prior to the beginning of events.

However, same day ticket purchases will be limited to four tickets per spectator, it explained.

Some 25,000 tickets for the opening and closing ceremony have also been sold out.

The Universiade is slated for Aug. 19-30 and is expected to attract more than 11,400 delegates and athletes from 142 countries.
