Taipei, Aug. 20 (CNA) Taiwan advanced to the LLB Junior League Baseball World Series final in Michigan on Saturday, defeating Venezuela in a playoff game.

The team from Taoyuan, the defending Junior League world champions, will be looking to secure their fifth straight world title when they come up against the United States in the final on Monday.

In their playoff game against Venezuela on Saturday, the Taiwan team clinched a 4-3 win, according to head coach Huang Wei-chih.

The two teams had to go into a playoff as they were tied 3-3 at the end of the international round, he said.

The Taoyuan school team has been participating in the LLB Junior League Baseball tournament since 2013, representing the Asia Pacific region for seven consecutive years and winning five world series, including the last four.

The Junior League Baseball World Series is a competition for the best teams of 13- and 14-year-old players from around the globe. Each team must win a national and/or regional tournament to earn the right to play in Taylor, Michigan, where the series has been held since its inception in 1981.
