UNIVERSIADE: Taekwondo athlete wins Taiwan's 1st medal (update)

Taipei, Aug. 20 (CNA) Taiwanese Lin Kan-yu finished second in the Taekwondo women's individual poomsae event at the Taipei Unviersiade on Sunday, snagging Taiwan's first medal at the games.

Lin scored 7.54 points in the match to take silver, while Thi Le Kim Nguyen of Vietnam won the gold medal with a score of 7.593 points.

"I put all my strength in today's match because I genuinely wanted to secure a medal for Taiwan," Lin said.

She said that long before the games started Saturday, she had been eying photos of the medals in the hope of winning one.

Meanwhile, Chen Chien-chuan placed third in the Taekwondo men's individual poomsae event, adding one more to Taiwan's medal count.
