Taipei, Aug. 21 (CNA) Taiwan beat an American team from Pennsylvania 12-1 in the LLB Junior League Baseball World Series final in Michigan on Sunday, securing its fifth straight world title.

Taiwanese team head coach Huang Wei-chih told CNA that Lin Yi-hsiang scored the first hit in the final match before Lee Hao-yu struck a three-point home-run.

It was Lee's fifth homer during the tournament, held from Aug. 13-20 in Taylor City, Michigan, said Huang.

After securing five points in the first two innings, the Shing-Ming team from Taoyuan added seven points to its score at the top of the fifth inning, ending the match 12-1 in the inning to finish earlier than scheduled, according to Huang.

The coach attributed victory to starting pitcher Chen Chih-chieh, who he said successfully suppressed strikes from strong American players.

Chen allowed the U.S. team to gain one point in the first inning, but it was the only time the American East team made it onto the scoreboard during the entire match, Huang said.

The Taoyuan school team has participated in the LLB Junior League Baseball tournament since 2013, representing the Asia Pacific region for seven consecutive years and winning five world series, including the last four.

The team will return to Taiwan on Tuesday, Huang said.

The Junior League Baseball World Series is a competition for the best teams of 13-14 year-old players from around the globe. Each team must win a national and/or regional tournament to earn the right to participate, in Michigan where the series has been held since its inception in 1981.
