UNIVERSIADE: Taiwan adds 2 archery silvers to medal count

Taoyuan, Aug. 24 (CNA) Taiwan won silver medals in both the Universiade's men and women's recurve team matches on Thursday at National Taiwan Sport University Stadium in Taoyuan City.

The men's match, which began at 10:25 a.m., saw Taiwan's Wei Chun-heng, Deng Yu-cheng and Peng Shih-chen face off against South Korea.

The Taiwan team scored 56, 54, and 55 points in the three sets, respectively, earning a total score of 165 points. South Korea scored 58, 59 and 58, a total of 175 points.

After taking into account the number of 10s each team scored, the final score was 6-0, with South Korea winning the gold.

The women's team, made up of Peng Chia-mao, Tan Ya-ting and Lei Chien-ying also faced off against South Korea in the gold medal match at 11:15 a.m.

With the two teams tied after three sets the match went to a fourth set and finally a shoot-off.

It was neck and neck at 4-4 by the time of the shoot-off, during which Taiwan scored a 9, 10, 9, while South Korea scored three 10s.

With the final score 4-5, South Korea won the gold and Taiwan's women the silver medal.
