UNIVERSIADE: Taiwan grabs gold in men's tennis

Taipei, Aug. 29 (CNA) Jason Jung won gold for Taiwan in the men's singles tennis event at the Taipei Universiade on Tuesday, setting aside Hong Seongchan of South Korea in straight sets.

The 28-year-old Jung, who regularly plays Challenger events on the ATP Tour and is ranked 270th in the world in singles, completed a masterful tournament in which he didn't drop a set by defeating the overmatched Korean 6-2, 6-4.

He celebrated his victory by falling to the court and bathing in a standing ovation from the 4,000-strong home crowd.

Jung was in control throughout, facing only one break point the entire match (which he lost) and dictating the rallies against Hong, who is ranked 676th in the world and is best known for reaching the finals of the 2015 Australia Open junior championships.
