Taipei, Aug. 29 (CNA) The government-owned Bank of Taiwan on Tuesday began selling silver coins produced by the Japan Mint to commemorate the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, with each coin priced at NT$5,250 (US$174).
The front side of the the silver coin, forged in multiple colors, features the Earth, flowers representing Brazil and Japan, and the Olympic Games flag. The words "Rio 2016" and "Tokyo 2020" symbolize the transition of the Olympic Games from the Rio to Tokyo, according to the bank.
A limited number of coins, 5,000 in total, are being sold around the world, the bank said, noting that as the official distributor of the coins in Taiwan, it was allocated only 60 commemorative coins, making them particularly rare.
