Brussels, Sept. 3 (CNA) Taiwan's Ministry of Education (MOE) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Management Center Innsbruck (MCI), a private business school in Innsbruck, Austria, to promote a Taiwan studies program.
Under the agreement, the ministry will fund the university's execution of the program through courses, relevant activities and thesis writing. It will also offer a scholarship for mandarin Chinese learning to at least one MCI student per year, according to the MOE.
The MOU was signed Sept. 1 by Lu Yun-pin, head of the education division of Taiwan's representative office in Austria, on behalf of the MOE, and MCI Rector Andreas Altmann, at the representative office.
The ceremony was witnessed by Taiwan's Representative to Austria Vanessa Shih and Kurt Koleznik, secretary-general of the Fachhochshulkonferenz (FHK) of Austria. FHK refers to the association of all Austrian Universities of Applied Sciences.
Addressing the ceremony, Koleznik said the employment rate of MCI graduates has become the highest in Austria, which is evidence that the ability of MCI students is well-recognized in the business sector.
For many years, MCI has maintained close cooperative relations with the Taiwanese liaison office in Austria, he said, expressing hope that such cooperation will be expanded in the future.
Shih for her part noted that Taiwan-Austria links in the cultural and educational sectors have become more and more close in recent years.
The two countries have forged three agreements on education cooperation, which include an MOU for cooperation in common and vocational education.
The other two are an MOU for higher education cooperation, and an MOU for cooperation between the MOE's Department of International and Cross-Strait Education and the Province of the Tyrol of the Republic of Austria, according to Shih.
