Taipei, Sept. 4 (CNA) Taiwan looks forward to exchanging more information with Japan on disaster prevention and rescues and stepping up cooperation with its neighbor on exploring the Southeast Asian and South Asian markets' opportunities, Vice President Chen Chien-jen said Monday.
In 2016, the number of visits between people in Taiwan and Japan exceeded 6 million, which was helpful to enhancing mutual understanding between the two countries, Chen said during a meeting with a Japanese delegation led by parliamentarian Kazunori Tanaka.
He said both Taiwan and Japan are prone to natural disasters, and people from each side have shown care for the other during such challenging times, which fully demonstrates their friendship.
Chen expressed the hope that both countries will have closer information exchanges and technical cooperation in the area of disaster prevention and rescue.
The vice president also told the Japanese visitors that Taiwan is currently promoting the New Southbound Policy, which is aimed at advancing its relations with Southeast Asia and South Asia, and he urged Japanese companies to work with their Taiwanese counterparts to jointly explore the vast business opportunities in these two regions.
