New Delhi, Sept. 4 (CNA) Taiwan Institute of Economic Research (TIER) and Observer Research Foundation (ORF), the largest independent think tank based in India, on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote research and academic exchanges.

The agreement was signed by ORF Director Sunjoy Joshi and TIER President Lin Chien-fu, who is currently on a visit to New Delhi until Sept. 10.

Under the MOU, TIER and the Indian think tank agreed to collaborate on projects such as exchanges of academic resources, and faculty for research purposes. They also agreed to come up with joint research projects.

Lin said the aim is to strengthen the academic cooperation between the two institutions, and to help push for future investments and trade between the two countries.

Joshi pointed out that this was the first time ORF has signed an MOU with a Taiwanese think tank, and said he looked forward to strengthening the academic ties between the two independent institutions.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, Lin said Taiwan used to look to China for cooperation, but it is now time to focus more on tapping the Indian market and strengthening economic and trade cooperation with India.
