Taipei, Sept. 5 (CNA) Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Yuan Tsai Chi-chang Tuesday said Legislative Yuan Speaker Su Jia-chyuan will later this month lead a delegation of lawmakers to Japan to attend the annual meeting of the Asian-Pacific Parliamentarians' Union (APPU).
Tsai said that favorable and improved relations with Japan can be seen by the fact Su headed the largest ever Taiwan legislative delegation to visit Japan last year and more than 100 lawmakers out of the Legislature's 113 members have participated in the Taiwan-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Association.
He also added that Taiwan is keen to work with Japan to preserve peace and stability in East Asia and thanked the Japanese government for its continued benevolence to Taiwan, while looking forward to Japan voicing support for Taiwan internationally.
Su's team will leave on Sept. 17 for the annual APPU meeting which will be held from Sept. 18-20 in Oita Prefecture, Kyushu and is expected to return on the meeting's last day.
The APPU was established in 1965 and headquartered in Tokyo as an exchange platform for the legislative bodies of its five founding members -- Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea and Thailand. It currently has 21 member nations.
