Taipei. Sept. 6 (CNA) Taipei will be joining cities around the world to hold a free concert on Sept. 16 in celebration of Daniel Pearl World Music Days, according to the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT).
The concert will be held 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Taipei Hakka Cultural Park, in commemoration of American journalist Daniel Pearl, who was killed by terrorists in 2002, the AIT said in a statement Tuesday.
The annual event will include live musical performances, a vinyl disc jockey stage, and local food and craft stands, the AIT said.
The concert will feature local and international musicians, preforming swing, country, ska, rock and roll, and world music, the AIT said.
For the first time, the event will also include a West African percussion workshop conducted by the local group KonKonBa, according to the AIT.
An accomplished journalist and musician, Daniel Pearl died tragically in 2002 at the hands of terrorists while serving as the South Asia Bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal.
To celebrate his life, Pearl's friends came together in 2002 to launch Daniel Pearl World Music Days, an international series of concerts in September and October, spreading a message of tolerance, hope, and humanity.
Since 2002, the Daniel Pearl Music Days network has grown internationally to include more than 13,900 performances in 140 countries. Taipei was one of the first cities to participate in the event.
