Taipei, Sept. 7 (CNA) The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) will hold a Taiwan Day event in Malaysia Friday to help Taiwanese e-commerce operators explore opportunities in the Southeast Asian country and facilitate cooperation between e-commerce businesses in the two countries.

Chen Mi-shun, deputy head of the MOEA's Department of Commerce, said that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and Malaysia in particular, is one of the fastest-growing e-commerce markets in the world.

Therefore, the government wants to help Taiwan's e-commerce businesses explore more opportunities there by promoting the profile of their brands and helping them find partners in the country, Chen said.

Malaysia has a population of over 30 million and the country's economic growth is no longer reliant on exports but driven mainly by domestic demand. Personal consumption accounts for 55.2 percent of the nation's gross domestic product (GDP), according to commerce department data.

The Malaysian government has launched a national policy strategy to facilitate e-commerce development, and the value of the country's e-commerce market is forecast to reach US$7.22 billion by 2025.

The Taiwan Day event will bring together 21 Taiwanese e-commerce vendors, including Uitox, ALLYOUNG Beauty and Health, friDay, KKday and AIR Space.

It will feature booths for the display of products, while face-to-face meetings and other activities for business exchanges will be held, according to Chen.
