Taipei, Sept. 8 (CNA) Premier-designate Lai Ching-te was sworn in as premier at the head of a new Cabinet by President Tsai Ing-wen at a ceremony in the Presidential Office Friday.

Vice President Chen Chien-jen, Judicial Yuan President Hsu Tzong-li, Examination Yuan President Wu Jin-lin, Control Yuan President Chang Po-ya and Presidential Office Secretary-General Joseph Wu, were present to witness the ceremony.

Lai, who previously served as mayor of Tainan, will officially take over the post from outgoing Premier Lin Chuan at 11:00 a.m. at a handover ceremony in the Executive Yuan, which will be streamed live on https://youtu.be/jwVJcOAn7T8.

Lin's resignation was approved by Tsai on Monday and Lai was appointed to succeed Lin the next day.

Describing himself as a man of his word, Lin said he looks forward to better teamwork in the Cabinet and expressed frustration that many bills remain stalled in the Legislature, adding that he did everything in his power and the task now falls to his successor, who he wished all the best.
