Taipei, Sept. 8 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen received Guido Galperti, vice president of the Italy-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group and his delegation in Taipei on Friday.

Tsai thanked Galperti for Italy's continued support for the proposed bilateral investment agreement between Taiwan and the European Union.

She also said that with the recent conclusion of the world university games in Taipei, she is looking forward to the 2019 Universiade which will be held in Naples, Italy.

Tsai added that Galperti is a good friend of Taiwan, has always supported the country and attended her inauguration in 2016.

The President also welcomed Galperti to Taiwan during his five-day visit from Sept. 7-11 to attend the 7th session of the economic and trade conference between Taiwan and Italy. The meeting will focus on the development of political, economic, societal and cultural ties between the two countries.

She also expressed her hope that Italy will sign a bilateral agreement on youth working holidays with Taiwan as soon as possible.

Taiwan has already signed youth working holiday agreements with 10 European countries including Germany and France, and hopes to do the same with Italy in order to enhance the relationship between young people in the two countries, the President added.

The four member delegation of Galperti and his wife along with Italian parliamentarians Giuseppe Romele and Mario Borghese also plans to visit the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101 and other important economic and cultural landmarks during their stay.
