Taipei, Sept. 8 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen has appointed two new advisors to the National Security Council (NSC), the Presidential Office announced Friday.

"The president has made the decision to appoint the head of the Coordination Council for North American Affairs, Tao Yi-feng, and Taiwan External Trade Development Council Vice Chairman Kuo Lin-wu as new advisors to the security council," Presidential Office spokesman Sidney Lin said.

As a China research expert and international political science specialist, Tao will be able to contribute to the NSC with her profound understanding of and insights into China's political and economic developments and cross-Taiwan Strait relations, as well as issues related to Sino-U.S. relations, Lin said.

Kuo, on the other hand, has extensive experience in covering national security issues, notably during his time as director of the Office of Homeland Security under the Executive Yuan and as head of U.S.-based arms manufacturer Raytheon International Inc.'s division in the Asia-Pacific region, he added.

Tsai will rely on his professionalism and expertise to assist the government in devising homeland security policies, the spokesman said.
