Taipei, Sept. 8 (CNA) In the wake of an Aug. 25 attack on police stations in Myanmar's Rakhine State by the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a red travel advisory for the area, calling for Taiwanese nationals to avoid or quickly leave the area.

MOFA said the attacks have caused 89 deaths, with conflict on the rise, while the Myanmar government has sent in troops to pacify unrest in the area that is not expected to subside in the short-run.

According to the MOFA website, orange travel advisories have been issued for Kachin State, Shan State and Kayin State, advising nationals to only travel to these areas if absolutely necessary.

The rest of Myanmar has been placed under a yellow travel advisory, which urges nationals to reconsider their travel plans and if traveling to the area, to exercise a high degree of caution.

Tension in the region has risen due to a series of conflicts in 2012 between Rohingya Muslims and ethnic Rakhines, in which whole villages have been destroyed and up to 140,000 people displaced.
