Taipei, Sept. 8 (CNA) Taiwan Railways Administration is planning to announce 68 spots where the public can take photos of various painted trains along the railway lines in Eastern Taiwan.

The trend of railway fans chasing trains became popular after painted-trains came into existence a few years ago.

It began when a famous designer painted the "Puyuma Express" with indigenous tribal imagery and scenery from Eastern Taiwan after Hualien-Taitung railway electrification was completed in 2014.

Later, it become a popular hobby for people to take pictures of painted trains with "Hello Kitty" themes, which was launched last year, and eight kinds of trains decorated with different designs to celebrate the 130th anniversary of TRA this year.

There are a total of 68 photographing spots along the railway lines in Eastern Taiwan, such as Duoliang Station, hiking trails in Taitung's Taimali Township, and the north entrance of Shanli tunnel.

All of the spots will be announced on the official website of the Taiwan Railways Administration within a month, the administration said.

TRA Freight Service Department general manager Chen Shu-huei said there are more than 220 stations along the lines spanning over 1,100 kilometers of tracks around Taiwan. Every station, line, and bridge has its beauty with the passing of trains adding spice to the scenery.

On Friday, the Taiwan Railways Administration and Tourism Bureau also launched the brand new painted train with the mascot "OhBear."
