Taipei, Sept. 11 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen said Monday at the opening of the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) that Taiwan is evolving into a smart app service provider and that the government wants to build a friendly environment for such innovation.
Tsai welcomed leading professionals and enterprises in Industry 4.0, the Internet of Things (IoT), or artificial intelligence to come to Taiwan and work with local companies in the supply chain to develop more innovative digital products and app services.
The government is willing to provide adequate resources to help young people fulfill their digital dreams, she said.
"Building a system and an environment suitable for industrial innovation is the core mission of the administration I lead," the president said.
Taiwan is hosting the WCIT this year after a 17-year hiatus, and Tsai described that honor as great encouragement to Taiwan in pursuing its digital dream.
To achieve the goal of turning Taiwan into a digital nation and a smart island, the government is promoting industrial innovation in several ways, including easing regulations, launching new policies and plans and stepping up digital infrastructure construction, Tsai said.
After all of these projects have been completed, Taiwan will emerge as a bellwether for the overall digital economy.
The two-day WCIT is being held in conjunction with the Microsoft IoT Expo at the Taipei International Convention Center.
This year, the Microsoft IoT Expo has gathered more than 1,000 global and local IoT vendors from 32 countries, showcasing IoT solutions and technologies.
