Taipei, Sept. 12 (CNA) Demand for tutors, including language tutors, during the January-July period has increased by 23 percent over the same period of the last several years, averaging an increase of 2,000 demands for such services per month during the period, according to 104 online job bank.
The need for language tutors led the demand, with 6,386 requests to the job bank between January and July, exceeding over 50 percent of the total cases.
The language in greatest demand was English, accounting for approximately 75 percent, followed by Japanese. If demand for the two languages were combined, it would account for 90 percent of the total.
Thai and Vietnamese, which accounted for just 16 cases in 2013, soared to 90 cases for the job bank in the January-July period.
According to the job bank, the demand for tutors for employees increased by 79 percent compared with the same period of 2013.
According to a survey conducted by the job bank, the demand for language tutors was highest for employees, at approximately 75 percent, followed by computer training.
Vietnamese tutor Nguyen Thi Huong said that while she has a wide range of students from different backgrounds -- from young school students to older people in the workforce -- the latter account for 50-60 percent of her students.
Nguyen added that many of her students are senior supervisors of overseas Taiwanese companies and said that the need for Vietnamese proficiency exams and public servant exams is increasing.
