Taipei, Sept. 14 (CNA) An exhibition featuring three generations of Honduran painters kicked off Thursday in Taipei with the aim of enhancing people's understanding of Honduras' culture through art.
Titled "Honduras - Taiwan: United by Art," the exhibition presents 55 paintings by artists Julio Visquerra, Nora Buchanan and Ariana Gale, according to the Honduras Embassy in Taipei.
Honduras Ambassador Rafael Fernando Sierra Quesada said at the opening of the exhibition that he was honored to show the work of three different generations of painters from his country.
Visquerra, 73, is a world famous painter, while Buchanan is of younger generation, and Gale is a 16-year-old high school student, according to the ambassador.
He said he hoped the exhibition, the second of its kind in Taipei, would be held on a regular basis in Taiwan.
Meanwhile, Taiwan's Vice Foreign Minister Jose Maria Liu said at the opening that the Taiwan government would indeed like to host such events regularly.
Liu said that through the use of different techniques, the three painters have shown the richness and diversity of Honduran culture, which will lead to better understanding of the country among Taiwanese.
Taiwan has had strong diplomatic ties with the Central American country for 76 years, which included frequent educational and cultural exchanges, he said.
The exhibition will run until Saturday at Mayor's Residence Art Salon.
